Many beekeepers are eager to obtain bees, often from third party sources, and as soon as possible. We would recommend that the brood is shaken onto fresh foundation during a warm day to avoid any incidence of foulbrood.
If any beekeeper is concerned about the health of the colony they are obtaining, they should contact the local Seasonal Bee Inspectors or Regional Bee Inspector who will be able to offer advice and assistance.
Moving unhealthy bees markedly increases the spread of disease and once moved may infect other colonies of bees in the area.
If in doubt, please ask.
